Painting the Soul of Guatemala. Every Painting Begins with a Story Original Art Inspired by Guatemala

The Picasso of Guatemala.

ABOUT samuel lopez artist

I was born on November 24, 1992, in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, a small town in Guatemala deeply rooted in Mayan culture. From an early age, I was surrounded by the vibrant colors, traditional textiles, and rich customs that are part of everyday life in my community. That heritage became the greatest inspiration for my work and the foundation of the color palette that brings each of my paintings to life.

I am a self-taught artist who continues to learn, explore, and grow with every piece I create. My work is inspired by the richness of Guatemala’s Mayan culture and the expressive brilliance of Vincent van Gogh. Through my art, I seek to share the beauty, history, and identity of Guatemala with the world, inviting others to discover and appreciate the cultural legacy of one of history’s greatest civilizations.

Rather than following a single artistic style, I allow each painting to find its own voice. Guided by both brush and palette knife, I embrace a creative process that unfolds naturally. I find inspiration in the simple gifts God has placed around us—a breathtaking landscape, a vibrant color, a meaningful glance, or an ordinary moment transformed into something extraordinary.

If you are visiting my gallery today, thank you for taking the time to discover my work. You may have heard some friends jokingly call me “The Picasso of Guatemala.” It always brings a smile to my face, but beyond any nickname, my true aspiration is much more meaningful.

My greatest hope is that every painting carries a small piece of Guatemala into your home. I want each artwork to inspire a lasting connection with our country’s culture, history, and spirit every time you look at it.

Thank you for appreciating my art and for being part of this journey.
